Is it reasonable to consider computer games as art?

a) How does Adams define art? Do you agree with his definition?
Adams thought that there are library art, like writing and drama. Then the fine arts: sculpture and painting, music and dance. There are also the decorative arts: wallpaper, fabrics and furnishings. And Adams also says that the boundaries between art and non-art are not hard and fast. Also Art has been considered to be self-expressive and thus a spontaneous act that has no formulaic characteristic.
On one hand, I agree with his definition, because he said all the part of art is right, but on the other hand, the art is not only he said in the traditional way for our modern city, we should add the more definitions about the art, the street arts and some art from our simple life.
b) According to Adams, what is needed for videogames to be considered as art?
According to Adams, the interactivity preclude art is needed for videogames to be considered as art, that art is a form of communication from the artist to viewer starts to interfere.

Playing video games

According to the film, what are some pros and cons of playing videogames for individuals and societies?
I have to say Different games may have different pros and cons.
Cons:
Firstly, I think playing videogames playing video games will harm our physical health; but some games are opposite to this, it may help people do some exercises.
For example, the game called Dance Dance Revolution helps players burn extra pounds while they are playing. As players follow the beat of the song associated with the game, they face the screen to move on a 3-foot square platform with an arrow on each side of the square – pointing up, down, left, and right.
Secondly, if someone loses himself in the videogame, they may waste much time to study or work. And people may get violence in their real life.
Thirdly. If we take much time to play the videogames it affects our study negatively. For example, you can see the dialogue below for a mother and a child.
“Honey, I have signed you up for advanced math and social science classes in this summer, so you will have something to do,” Mother tells her 12-year-old son. “Can I play some video games with my friends?” her son asks. “I think you don’t want to waste your time on that.” This conversation between a mother and her son implies that parents believe that video games are the cause of children studying less. They claim that the fewer video games children play, the more they achieve in the future. Although parents believe playing games has a negative influence on their children, some evidence shows that playing video games yields positive results.

Pros:
When we play the videogame which can help us improve our thinking and inspiration. That is good for us.
According the film, is there any evidence that digital games can encourage aggressive values and anti-social actions in the real world? Do you agree?
Yeah, I think there is really any evidence that digital games can encourage aggressive values and anti-social actions in the real world.
Should governments have the right to ban certain games? Why or why not?
Maybe the governments should ban games the games which has negative effects to our body.
I have already said the cons in the first question, and different games may have different pros and cons. So we need to know what kind of games is good for us and what is not. And then the governments can use come policy to ban the games.

Technologies bodies in art

Which artist’s work do you find the most interesting?

In accordance with Stelarc Exoskeleton’s work, I feel very fantastic about it. Not only weirdness about Stelarc Exoskeleton’s work, but I also find that it is impossible to the art in our bodies. Because of these reasons, I am quite interested in his work.

Describe one work by that artist in detail, and explain, what is interesting about it.
Artist, Stelarc is renowned for his augmented body art forms. Here he has built a giant spider like walking frame.

He tried to use a suspension type to show his body. He use lifting hook to let himselves hang in the sky. He did it in different place every time. And he calls this posture of indifference.
I feel very amazed that he did this posture of indifference in this way without shed blood. He can use his third hand to control his body. And also he can let his body move or not move in anyway. He just needs to take care of his muscle into the lifting hook.

In Japan, he uses his signal of his muscles to control his body and then move his body up and down. The acting played last 30 minutes.I think he is very smart to do in this way. And I have not seen in this way in china mainland.

QQ Services

I'm QQ is Tencent's first real English website to introduce QQ to English speakers. The English QQ versions were always hidden on a Chinese page and this made it very difficult for foreigners to get started. To help people get started, I created a personal page with signup information and last year an English page was launched to promote Tencent Messenger 2008. With I'mQQ.com this is taken another big step forward. It's now easier than ever for foreigners to register a QQ account and to find out what QQ is all about.

Constructing Identity Online

There are many Identities online that I have already used, such as MSN, facebook, renren, QQ, Fetion, e-mail and so on.
MSN and QQ can help me talk with people at home, and I can see my family and friends on the internet. They are also help me to send files on the internet.Fetion has some commons with MSN and QQ.But there is one different from them that is it can sent message to people’s telephone number. Renren and Facebook are the same Identity online .they are all help us to meet classmates and friends online.
Online identity has given people the opportunity to feel comfortable and freedom in wide-ranging roles, some of which may be underlying aspects of the user's life that the user is unable to portray in the real world. This freedom results in new opportunities for society as a whole, especially the ability for people to explore the roles of gender and sexuality in a manner that can be harmless, yet interesting and helpful to those undertaking the change.

Extraterrestrial Mission to Earth

Given the preceding principles, we can define digital film in this way:
digital film = live action material + painting + image processing +
compositing + 2-D computer animation + 3-D computer animation

Compared with traditional cinema, digital cinema only needs one single digital cinema projector, which converts the digital signal into images and projects them onto the screen. There is no intermission during a digital movie and unlike its counterpart, no chance of damage caused by long-time irradiation of light. The reason is that digital movies do not use film. It is all computerized. This means digital screenings will be devoid of scratches or flickering images commonly found on film copies. The high quality seen in very first screening will be maintained irrespective of the number of times the movie is shown.

High quality, profitable and consumer- friendly digital movies are here to stay
Although many people will not think that digital cinema is important for their everyday life ,they don’t know they are benefit from it in their everyday life.
Digital cinema can bring us some magic and passion feel that traditional filmmaker could’t give to us .and the mission to earth told me there is another things we need to do.......
there is a link to show http://www.softcinema.net/mission_to_earth.htm#

Hong Kong Bus Uncle with English and Mandarin Subtitles

An example ------ the bus uncle
It might be different since we were raised in a Hong Kong-type culture - already. So, you might beuse to interacting with local people (and how they act...like this video on a daily basis in Hong Kong). For me, I come from china mainland. There a big cultural gap watching these types of things maybe is from our environment and culture .I feel ignorant and this is alien to me.. the Bus uncle is completely wrong in asking for an apology and in verbally abusing the younger guy about his mom. Like he says, his mom has nothing to do with their argument.

YouTube

1.How many viewers are estimated to have watched the YouTube video?
Actually I don’t know how many viewers use it, but there are whole people around me use it to watch video.
2. How would you rate the video?
Is it of high quality in technical terms? Is it interesting aesthetically egg camera angles, use of light, the narrative, and so on?
Yeah I think it is a kind of high quality in technical terms.
And it is interesting for his camera angles, the angle showed us that the view for real people and for the interesting things that people did.
Does it raise interesting socio-cultural issues?
Of course it will raise interesting socio-cultural issues for audiences such as sex, violence, substance abuse, profanity, impudence or other types of mature content. A particular issued rating is called a certification.
3. Do you think it deserved the attention that it received from the internet community?
Not really, maybe other video service can also do what YouTube do, but you will see some competences on the internet between YouTube and some other video service
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_video_services this address will show you the difference between YouTube and some other video service

Digital technology and Analog technology

What is analog technology?

People accept digital things easily enough, often by thinking of them as electronic, computerized, and perhaps not even worth trying to understand. But the concept of analog technology often seems more baffling—especially when people try to explain it in pages like this! So what's it all about? (I find it in the internet)

What is digital technology?

Digital is entirely different. Instead of storing words, pictures, and sounds as representations on things like plastic film or magnetic tape, we first convert the information into numbers (digits) and display or store the numbers instead. (I find it in the internet)

Which is better, analog or digital?
An analog watch might be far more accurate than a digital one, and if it has a sweeping second hand it will represent the time more precisely than a digital watch whose display shows only hours and minutes. Generally, the most expensive watches in the world are analog ones (of course, that's partly because people prefer the way they look); though the world's most accurate atomic clocks show time with digital displays.

One interesting question is whether information stored in digital form will last as long as analog information. Museums still have paper documents that are thousands of years old, but no-one has the first email or cell phone conversation. A lot of information recorded on early computer memory devices is completely impossible to read with newer computers; even floppy disks, commonplace as recently as the mid-1990s, are impossible to read on newer computers that no longer have built-in floppy drives.

That's why, though the future may be digital, analog technology will always have its place!

Baby's photo

Group good's arguement

Argument 1:
easy to use and learn
Wikis are instantaneous so there is no need to wait for a publisher to create a new edition or update information
people located in different parts of the world can work on the same document
the wiki software keeps track of every edit made and it's a simple process to revert back to a previous version of an article
widens access to the power of web publishing to non-technical users
the wiki has no predetermined structure - consequently it is a flexible tool which can be used for a wide range of applications
there are a wide range of open source software wiki's to choose from so licensing costs shouldn't be a barrier to installing an institutional wiki.
Criticize: The information may not accurate

Support:  Just recently the National Institute of Health launched a new initiative to encourage their scientists to edit or start new Wikipedia entries on their area of expertise to ensure that the correct information on health issues is cited. “Wikipedia articles (there are more than 2.9 million of them in English) can be initiated and edited by anyone who can access the website. Quality is informally monitored by fellow users, who can make corrections and change the text freely. All information that is posted is supposed to include citations so a reader can check the primary sources of the data,”
Washington Post article stated.

suggestion: check the primary sources which Wikipedia provided.

Support 2:
“ We have traditionally protected articles to deal with temporary attacks of vandalism. In such a state, no one could edit those articles. We did not like this, so we moved to a system of semi-protection, and the quality improvements were impressive.
We will now be experimenting, first in the German Wikipedia, with a model of flagging versions as being "nonvandalized," while still allowing editing. Each of these steps is designed to be more open, and each is also designed to help achieve higher quality.
Britannica doesn't display its rough drafts, or the articles before being checked by a copy editor; Wikipedia does. We think this sort of open transparency is healthy and results in greater quality than doing everything behind closed doors.”
Suggestion: If you feel that a certain article on Wikipedia is bias or inaccurate change it yourself OR e-mail an editor.

Read them though and upload your comments:

is the argument logical?

is it well-supported (with facts, with additional points and/with examples)?

is the argument convincing/persuasive?

how could it be improved?

Wikipedia or encyclopaedia

If I am given the opportunity to choose between wikipedia and a well-respected online proprietary encyclopedia such as Encyclopedia Britannica, Wikipedia will definitely gain my favor. Because it is much more simplified and we can easily find what we want. In addition, it is more comprehensive and more practical as it can spare the trouble to log on. What is more, it is open for everyone to edit its terms.

Wikipedia is continuously updated while on the other hand it also retains the old versions. By comparing the older ones and the latest one, you can acquire knowledge of how things improve.

With so many people of various backgrounds participating, WIKI has gathered their wisdom in this creative work. Just as BLOG has changed modern people’s habit of writing, the chances are that WIKI will change our habits of referring to some authoritative source. .

WIKI will not only answer people’s questions and solve their puzzles, but also can enlighten people with fresh knowledge and encourage people to write creatively.

it will be standing on the shoulders of giants to re-start.

Modern Times

1. What are the benefits of the new technologies (industrial machinery, feeding machine, closed circuit cameras) shown in the film? Who gains from these technologies?

The new technologies can help people work more quikly and gain much money than ever.in the film we see the factory owner gain a lot from these technologies, but how about the works?they worked hard ,but they gain a little.they feel very tired to do their works.their pressure told them they can't stop to work.becouse of their family and their life.

2. What is the effect of these technologies on the main character’s life/mood/body?
It was let the character crazy about these technologies .he can't to control his body to work, his health may become worse and worse.

3. What effects does using computers and the internet have on your life/mood/body?
on one hand ,using computers can help ue find much new knowledge , we can do homework more quickly and communicate with our family and friends regularly and easily.
but on the other hand, computers may affect our vision.moreover, the most seriously affect is the communication between people, Just because the computer is too convenient, people can only use the Internet to be able to pass messages between each other, and even the phone time connected .
